A series of virtual programs that combine hands-on technology with employer and postsecondary expertise is designed for high school students who are interested in career tech pathways. Cincinnati State, Miami University, Southern State, University of Cincinnati and area employers are collaborating to offer programs.

Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory Therapy is a credentialled and licensed specialized health care field where practitioners are trained to work therapeutically with people suffering from pulmonary disease. Medical Assisting

Medical Assisting is a career in high demand in the medical field. MA’s work in outpatient settings such as your primary care doctors office or urgent cares. If you are looking for a program in the healthcare field that gets you working in just under a year, MAC is a good place to start. During the session we will discuss the basics of what you as a patient should expect when visiting a doctor’s office and the patient’s rights to expect safety and privacy in an office environment. We will also discuss PPE, disinfection and sanitization.

Surgical Technology

Surgical Technologists participate in the care of the surgical patient before, during and after surgery. During operative procedures, the Surgical Technologist functions as the scrub person on the sterile team. Their responsibilities include preparation/set up of sterile operative equipment, supplies, and instrumentation skills throughout the surgical procedure. In addition, the Surgical Technologist can function as a second assistant, who is also a member of the sterile team. Also, Surgical Technologists may assist in the circulating role. STs are in high demand until the year 2029. The average growth rate for all occupations is 4 percent. ST is 7% faster than average. Practical Nursing Certificate

The Practical Nursing Certificate Program can be a stepping stone to an advanced degree; however, that is not necessary to begin working in the nursing field, making this an ideal role for those interested in breaking into healthcare quickly. Become a NURSE in 3 semesters which is less than a year and then begin working while continuing your educational path.

Medical Laboratory Technician

A medical laboratory technician (MLT) uses laboratory skills, computers, technology, and knowledge of pathology to provide information needed by the physician to diagnose, treat, and prevent disease. In clinical chemistry, for example, the MLT determines enzyme levels to diagnose a heart attack, glucose levels to monitor diabetes, and cholesterol levels to prevent heart disease. In hematology, the MLT studies blood cells to diagnose anemia and leukemia. In immunohematology, the MLT prepares blood for transfusions. In the microbiology department, the organism causing an infection is identified and antimicrobials for treatment are determined.

If you are thinking about becoming an Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Strength Coach or Cardiac Rehab Specialist, learn how you can get started on these career paths with an associates degree in Exercise Science.
