Construction employers engage with educators

More than 50 career technical administrators, teachers, ODE staff members, post-secondary representatives, and industry professionals attended a May 13 Workshop for Construction Technologies hosted by the Southeast and Southwest Region.

Presentations were given by Linda O'Connor (ODE) and Patrick Reardon (Ohio State Apprenticeship Council) on how apprenticeship programs work for students across the state.  Postsecondary options were shared by Cincinnati State, Hocking College and Sinclair.  Ken Bowald, Chief Administrator for the Southeast Region, focused on Tech Prep.

A business panel answered questions about employment qualifications and success tips.  Industry representatives hope to be included in further conversations, and welcome connections by those secondary programs offering construction technologies. The hope is to create an employment pipeline extending from high school career tech programs to local job opportunities.

Dave Spears, Great Oaks Curriculum Specialist, introduced Scarlet Oaks construction technologies students. The young men are exemplary members of regional career tech programs. The day concluded with Mike Cowles of ODE presenting ideas on marketing CTE programs to students.
